An ancient shell hidden at Bear Cove, near port hardy on north eastern Vancouver Island, was found to have stone tools underneath it that were carbon-dated to approximately 8,000 years ago? T tools include flat stones flaked to create sharp edges – perhaps for scraping skins. It’s among the oldest evidence of human presence on the island.
